Texans safety Ed Reed has begun training camp on the active / physically unable to perform list, but head coach Gary Kubiak indicated he believes the veteran defensive back is recovering well from hip surgery.

“I’m impressed with where he’s at,” Kubiak said of Reed, according to a transcript from the club. “He’s come a long way, watching him work with the guys today. They’ve got him on a program. We’ll work him out early in the mornings when the team’s doing individual stuff and try to have him available when we’re doing team, so he’s learning our system and those type of things.

“He knows what he has to do to get ready, but I’m impressed with how far he’s come.”

Reed was present at practice on Friday and worked on the side, per John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

Kubiak’s update on Reed will have suffice for now; per McClain, Reed wasn’t talking to reporters on Friday.

“I’m on PUP; no interviews,” Reed said, according to the Chronicle.
