Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe watched the Ravens’ Friday training-camp practice with GM Ozzie Newsome, Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reported.
According to the Sun, the Ravens are “considering signing Shiancoe,” who reportedly was to work out for Tampa Bay earlier this week.
The Ravens’ depth beyond Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson is a little thin, and the 33-year-old Shiancoe would give them another experienced reserve option. Shiancoe appeared in four games for New England in 2012, all as a backup.
Before his one-season stint with New England, Shiancoe played five seasons with the Vikings (2007-2011) and four seasons with the Giants (2003-2006). He’s hauled in 243 passes for 2,677 yards and 27 TDs in 10 NFL seasons, with his prime years with Minnesota, for which he was a key part of the passing game.
Shiancoe, who was born in England, played collegiately at Baltimore’s Morgan State University.
