Arian Foster “very close” to practicing

The Texans weren’t too worried about running back Arian Foster’s calf injury when they placed him on the PUP list to start training camp and they haven’t been given any reason for concern since then.

Josina Anderson of ESPN.com reports that coach Gary Kubiak said that Foster could begin practicing this week, a projection that General Manager Rick Smith seemed on board with as well when he described Foster’s late training camp start as precautionary so that the calf strain didn’t linger into the season.

“We want to make sure that he is totally 100 percent ready. So he’s very close,” Smith said. “We are just making sure that he is ready to go when we let him loose. We are being cautious and taking that slowly, but I have no worries that that is going to be something that he is going to have to deal with.”

Smith also said that he didn’t think Foster’s workload -- he had 351 carries last season -- “negatively impacted” his health and didn’t indicate that there would be any change as the Texans move forward.
