Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin had surgery on his ailing hip and nothing doctors found forced the team to change its belief that Harvin will be able to help the team at some point this season.

Coach Pete Carroll told reporters that Harvin’s surgery went “very well” and that the team is “hopeful” that he’ll be able to return to the team later this season.

“There’s a long rehab process coming up,” Carroll said, via Curtis Crabtree of PFT and 950 KJR in Seattle. “He’s gonna be in NY for a couple of weeks to start of the rehab and then we’ll have him back here in due time. We don’t have any dates or timelines or that kind of stuff, but we’re gonna be very optimistic and hope he’ll be back as soon as possible.”

If the Seahawks follow through on their plan to keep Harvin on the PUP list into the regular season, as soon as possible would be for the seventh game of the season. Most reports indicate a longer absence for Harvin, however, with late November being frequently mentioned as a realistic possibility for his return to the lineup.

There’s a lot of time between now and then and a lot of rehab for Harvin to do, so there’s not much point in projecting a return date at this point. For now, the possibility of a return will have to be enough for the Seahawks.
