The Panthers released veteran offensive lineman Geoff Hangartner on Thursday and they added a new offensive lineman to the roster on Friday.

The team announced that they have signed Chris Scott, who was released by the Bills last month after failing his pre-training camp conditioning test. Scott was drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 draft by the Steelers and played two games for the team in 2011, which accounts for his only regular season action in the NFL.

Before releasing Hangartner, the Panthers had met with guard Travelle Wharton about returning to the team. Reports at the time indicated Wharton was looking for more money than Carolina was willing to offer and it seems Hangartner’s departure has done nothing to change their mind.

The Panthers also announced that they made a successful waiver claim on former Lions safety Ricardo Silva. Silva started six games for the Lions last season and has 14 games under his belt overall over two seasons.

To make room for the new arrivals, the Panthers waived/injured defensive tackle Linden Gaydosh.
