Kolb not at practice after injuring knee on Saturday

Kolb

On Saturday, Bills coach Doug Marrone described quarterback Kevin Kolb, who injured his knee while slipping on a rubber mat on the way to the practice field, as “day to day.”

Sunday isn’t the day Kolb will return.

Via multiple reports, Kolb isn’t present for Sunday’s practice. While Marrone said the injury isn’t significant, every injury that causes a player to miss practice time can become significant, because it can give the other guy competing for the job greater opportunities to take it.

In Kolb’s case, he’s trying to hold off rookie EJ Manuel.

Manuel surely wasn’t drafted sixteenth overall to be a backup. It’s just a matter of time, then, before he starts, whether because he beats out Kolb or because the oft-injured Kolb is once again injured.

For now, the oft-injured Kolb’s most recent injury gives Manuel an opportunity to take the job and run with it.

Preferably not on a rubber mat.
