Tramon Williams unconcerned about knee injury, unsure when he’ll return

Packers cornerback Tramon Williams injured his shoulder in 2011 and played through the pain, something that may have contributed to it being an issue for him throughout all of last season as well.

That experience has had an impact on the way Williams is handling a bone bruise in his knee that he picked up early in training camp this year. Williams sat out Saturday night’s scrimmage at Lambeau Field even though tests have turned up nothing to create a high level of concern and said that he’ll continue to stay on the sideline until he’s confident that everything has healed.

“It wasn’t a tear at all, so that’s definitely a good sign,” Williams said, via ESPNWisconsin.com. “I’m not concerned much at all. Obviously at this point, I’m just sitting and resting it. According to the doctors, it’s not serious. That’s about all we can do at this point. It’s just one of those things that needs rest. You can never put a timetable on injuries. You don’t want to come back too fast and have a setback. You’d rather wait around until you know you can go full speed.”

Williams will presumably sit out Friday’s game against the Cardinals and the lack of a timetable means that he could wind up missing more preseason games as well. If he doesn’t see much or any action in those games, the Packers will have to do whatever they can at practice to get him ready for game speed because he’s going to be their No. 1 cornerback this season and they need him to play at a higher level than he did in 2012.
