Richardson may skip preseason opener

Browns running back Trent Richardson has said he plans to play in all four preseason games this year.

He’s about to be zero for one.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the signs are pointing to Richardson resting a shin injury that caused him to recently miss some practice time.  He returned Monday on a limited basis.

Running back Montario Hardesty also is expected to miss the preseason opener on Thursday night against the Rams, due to a hamstring injury.

Injuries caused Richardson to miss all four preseason games in 2012.  He vowed to play in all four of them this year.  The Browns will settle for Richardson playing effectively in all 16 regular-season games.

  1. Cleveland, go sign Cedric Benson.

He needs to be on a run-first team and his yards from scrimmage average was better than any running back’s on Green Bay in 2012.

    Benson can still play.

  2. Played 9 games with 2 broken ribs and had 1,300+ yards from scrimmage and 12 TD’s….That’s some “china doll”

Didn’t know availability for the first preseason game -where starters play for 5 pointless minutes- was the measure for a healthy career.

  3. Will NOT draft this guy in fantasy football, I will laugh really hard at the person who dose draft him. Kid Gloves.

  4. Preseason or not, this is a trend. Just like Percy Harvin, some people have the talent to play, but their body just can’t handle it.

  5. Don’t know why the media likes to play the “injury prone” angle with Richardson.

He didn’t miss all 4 pre-season games last year due to injury he got his knee scoped prior to the pre season starting last year and actually came back 2 weeks sooner than he was projected and played well with no knee problems since.

The shin “injury” stems from getting kicked from another player.

If anything the current Browns regime is taking from the Redskins playbook with RGIII and protecting him like he’s a million dollar lottery ticket they don’t want to get stolen. If it was anyone else on the team you wouldn’t even hear about these bumps and bruises because they’d be allowed to play through them but with those two if they as much as sneeze loudly the coaches are pulling them from practice and the media is all over it.
