In his preseason debut, Philadelphia offensive tackle Lane Johnson looked like just the kind of player the Eagles hoped they were getting with the fourth overall pick in the NFL draft.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly said today that when offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland graded the film from the preseason opener against the Patriots, Johnson came out as the top player on the line.

“He may have been our most consistent offensive lineman, the way Coach Stoutland graded it out,” Kelly said. “He knew exactly what he was doing. He had no mental errors.”

Kelly named Johnson as one of three rookies who stood out as having exceptional preseason debuts, with the others being nose tackle Bennie Logan, a third-round pick, and defensive end Damion Square, an undrafted free agent.
