Burress has surgery, done for season

AP

On Monday, Steelers receiver Plaxico Burress turned 36.  He also had surgery that ended his football season before it began.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Burress is done for the year after undergoing an operation to repair a torn rotator cuff.

The injury happened when Burress dove to catch a pass last Thursday at practice.  Many coaches tell players not to go to the ground during training camp to prevent injuries like torn rotator cuffs.

Burress signed with the Steelers late in the 2012 football season after surprisingly receiving little interest following a strong 2011 with the Jets.  He re-signed with the team that drafted him in 2000 early in the offseason.

  1. I have it from inside sources that his torn rotator cuff was the result of a bullet from his unregistered firearm that he accidentally shot. Who says lightning never strikes the same place twice. Badabing!

  2. career ending surgery on your birthday? you have to feel sorry for the guy a little bit.

  3. “Without burress the steelers are done! hahahaha

Gonna be tough to rebound after losing your best player for the season ^_<"

Here comes Joemontana flacco, r-avenator, steeler fan wannabe jealous comments that make the Ravens fans cringe….

  4. As a ravens fan , I won’t rub it in because we have our own issues at wideout , but the difference is , we actually have good depth and competition. Steelers have been –and at least for 1 more year– are done.

  5. Lol here come raven trolls to pronounce the steelers are in trouble without burress, when he was a #5 IF he even made the team at all.

Balitmore and Pittsburgh both have good teams, and a great rivalry…just wish the idiotic trolls would keep their traps shut.

  6. It ended where it started. Guy worked hard to come back and was effective. Good luck to he.

  7. I don’t think the Steelers will miss his presence at all.

They have deeper problems than losing a guy that wasn’t a key part anyway.

Anyone that ends their post in badabing gets a thumbs down.

  9. I’m surprised that’s it’s season ending. Plax has been called many things but the dude plays through pain and injury. Must have been a complete tear.

  10. Career over, now it’s just a question of how soon he’ll be elected to the Hall of Fa…. HAHAHAHA sorry I just couldn’t go on…

  11. Just because they are young and you haven’t heard of them doesn’t mean the Steelers depth isn’t there. Remember the Pats tried to poach their #2 Eman Sanders, Markus Wheaton will surprise you quickly, Cotchery is a solid veteran and we all know what AB is capable of.

Ravens have some young WRs as well but you will never convince me that Jacoby Jones and Tandon Doss are better receivers than Sanders, Cotchery and Wheaton.

As for Burress he was a fan favorite and it sucks to see it end like this. Everyone was rooting for him to make the team and have a good year, but we weren’t expecting it.

  12. Seems like a “can’t win situation”. If he doesn’t sell out and give full effort for a diving catch, the coaches will say he is dogging it.

  13. With so many season-ending injuries thus far, it’s to the point where I don’t want to see any stories on my favorite team any longer…

  14. Ryan Clark says “nobody wants to play for the Dolphins”…

Bet you Steelers Fans would like Mike Wallace back now! Yeah, yeah, we know… he is a locker room cancer and a one trick pony, but what an awesome trick… blowing by coverage and scoring TDs. Fins Up and Steelers down… The question is how far down? Already behind the Bengals and Ravens, but I have a hunch the Browns are a QB away from leaving your team in the basement for years to come.

  15. You hate to see anyone injured. When it is in practice, it is the much worse. Hopefully Plax has a full recovery even if he never plays another down.

This is a bigger blow than Stiller43 appears to believe because it leaves the offense with no targets over 6’1″. And if there is anything that the Ravens should have taught the Steelers, it is the importance of a guy that can grab a jump ball.

    Yup, I said it!

Report comment. Yup you sure did, but your handle prevents anyone from thinking your comment has any truth to it. Stoke lay is old and slow just waiting to get blown up by Clark.

  17. The haters out there still surprise me. The steelers was closer to a divisional title then being in the basement. At 8-8 they were still competing for a playoff spot and a punt return ended the season. Expect this team to compete for the playoffs again this year.

Raven trolls should stop calling the steelers old and slow after signings like stokely and Clark. Plax was a backup, not a big deal that he’s gone. Heath will be back and that young o-line has another year of experience. Enjoy third place in the AFCN raven fans.

Entire seasons don’t come down to one play, that punt return didn’t even decide that game. The steelers had multiple opportunities to drive the field and score after that return but they didn’t get it done. Quit making excuses and pointing to a single play that ruined the entire season. You guys simply weren’t good last year, get over it…

Never make fun of injured players. Never have. Never will. If you could read, you would know that.

Ochocinco in the yellow and black. Steelers love them some washed up receivers.

30 22 Eat some crow meathead…Clark and Stokely aren’t rookies. Just another brilliant post by a raven troll.

Speaking of raven trolls so proud of Joeflaccomontana for admitting his alias ….now if the moderators only had guts…..sigh.
