The Chargers are reportedly preparing for bad news on wide receiver Malcom Floyd, who was carted off the practice field on Monday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chargers “fear” the 31-year-old Floyd has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. According to Schefter, Floyd was to have the MRI on Monday night.

An ACL tear could threaten Floyd’s season and would leave the Chargers thin at wide receiver -- a position at which they were deep entering this month. Then, last week, the Chargers lost Danario Alexander to an ACL tear. And now, Floyd has gone down.

Were Floyd to miss significant time, Vincent Brown, Eddie Royal, Keenan Allen and Robert Meachem would seemingly comprise the Chargers’ top quartet at receiver.

UPDATE 11:35 p.m. ET: According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the initial word is Floyd has a sprained knee. The severity of the sprain is not known. Floyd will seek a second opinion, Rapoport said.
