J.J. Watt wants to create the 20-20-20 club

Texans defensive end J.J. Watt was named the Defensive Player of the Year for his work last season, but he’s not resting on his laurels.

Watt would like to add offense to his portfolio, although it seems like that will have to remain a fantasy outside of any plans he may have to install himself on the Texans offense in the latest version of Madden. Watt’s goals go beyond hopes of bringing two-way football back to Houston, however. He also has set a prodigious goal for his defensive work that would likely bring him more hardware at the end of the season if he’s able to reach it.

“My goal is I want to create the 20-20-20 club: 20 sacks, 20 tackles for loss, 20 batted balls,” Watt said in an interview with Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com. “I was close last year but didn’t make it. Nobody has ever gotten close to that. It’s like the football triple crown. That’s what I am going for. Last year, I led in every category [Watt had 20.5 sacks, 23.5 tackles for loss and 16 batted balls], but I didn’t get the 20-20-20. That’s my goal this year.”

One need only look at those numbers from last year to know that Watt isn’t being unrealistic in his personal aim for the season and creating that exclusive club would certainly give him a better chance at attaining what he calls his top goal of the year. That would be winning a Super Bowl, which, unlike the 20-20-20 club, is a goal that has much to do with all the Texans not named Watt as well.
