Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert got off to a good start, but he suffered a sprained thumb on his throwing hand in the second quarter of the preseason game against the Jets.

Gabbert left the game and was replaced by Chad Henne, but the Jaguars released a statement saying Henne was going to enter the game at that point in the second quarter anyway. It’s not clear whether Gabbert would have been able to continue playing.

Assuming Gabbert’s thumb is OK, he probably wrapped up the starting quarterback job in Jacksonville with his performance against the Jets: Gabbert went 13-for-16 for 165 yards, with a touchdown and no interceptions. This was about as good as Gabbert has looked.
