Authorities in Florida say Hubert Allen Jr., the step-grandfather of Bills running back C.J. Spiller, shot four co-workers, killing two of them, before committing suicide.
According to Tim Graham of the Buffalo News, Allen played a pivotal role in raising Spiller.
Spiller played in the Bills’ preseason game on Saturday shortly after news about the shooting broke. Spiller left the game with a knee injury and did not speak to the media afterward. Bills coach Doug Marrone said he knew about the shooting before the game.
“I did know that the situation did occur prior to us playing,” Marrone said. “I didn’t know anything about any facts or anything like that and I still just became aware of the facts that there are media reports out there, but I have no idea of what exactly is true and what’s going on. . . . As far as I know he knew that there was something that happened personally, but we really didn’t have any information prior to the game. I was aware of the various media reports right after the game, but no one knows all the facts so I’m not going to comment at this time.”
Police say Allen, who was 72, killed his longtime boss, 80-year-old Marvin Pritchett, killed former co-worker Rolando Gonzalez-Delgado, who was 28.
