This time of year, there are a lot of releases from around the NFL about players getting waived or released as teams set their rosters for the start of the season.
Most of the names are unfamiliar and few are players projected to have much consequence, but they all had dreamed and worked toward making it in the NFL. In a break from the normal team release listing names that have been stricken from the roster, the Jaguars included a quote from General Manager David Caldwell thanking them for their effort.
“This is never an easy day. Some tough decisions were made today,” Caldwell said. “These players all came in and competed every day and we appreciate all the work they put into the building of our team. We wish them nothing but the best in the future.”
The biggest news to come out of the Jaguars’ cuts is that long snapper Jeremy Cain is out after seven years with the team. The team also released Luke Ingram, leaving Carson Tinker as their long snapper. Tinker, an undrafted rookie who played at Alabama, was one of the subjects of a moving Sports Illustrated article in 2011 about tornadoes that ripped through Tuscaloosa, killing 41 people including Tinker’s girlfriend.
Jacksonville placed 2013 seventh-round cornerback Jeremy Harris (pictured) on injured reserve with a back injury. The team also waived guard Mark Asper, punter Ken Parrish, cornerback Lionel Smith, linebacker Maalik Bomar, linebacker Jeremiah Green, defensive end J.D. Griggs, defensive end Paul Hazel, wide receiver Jamal Miles, safety Ray Polk and tackle Roderick Tomlin.
