Chargers holding out hope for Melvin Ingram

The Chargers put a couple of guys on injured reserve Monday.

The fact that neither of them happened to be Melvin Ingram can only be a good sign.

The second-year outside linebacker suffered a torn ACL in May, and they’re holding out hope he can return at some point this season.

That’s why they placed him on the reserve-PUP list, which makes him ineligible for the first six weeks of the season, but opens the door for a return later in the year.

That’s perhaps optimistic, but as long as there’s a chance, it at least gives Ingram more incentive in his rehab.

The team also announced that a pair of rookies — fifth-round cornerback Steve Williams and undrafted defensive tackle Byron Jerideau were going on IR. That moves their roster to 78, meaning they have three more moves to make before tomorrow’s deadline.
