The 12th man apparently needs to simmer down a bit.

Starting with tonight’s preseason finale, Seattle will deploy undercover police officers to address a rising tide of unruly fans at Seahawks games.

According to the Associated Press, the patrols will commence during Thursday’s game against the Raiders.  Last year’s home games reportedly generated complaints regarding “fan-on-fan violence and harassment in and out of the stadium.”

Thursday’s effort will provide a dry run for the regular-season home opener against the other team from the Bay Area, which will be played on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

Speaking of the 49ers, police in San Francisco have in recent years used undercover officers dressed as fans of the visiting team to monitor misbehavior directed at paying customers who choose not to root for the home team.
