Bengals cuts start rolling in

The Bengals have begun the process of whittling their roster down to 53 players ahead of Saturday’s 6 p.m. ET deadline.

PFT has learned via a league source that tackle Dennis Roland and running back Daniel Herron have both been released. Roland played in all 64 games in the last four seasons for the Bengals, starting 29 times although most of those starts came in 2009 and 2010.

Herron was a sixth-round pick last season, but saw action in just three games and got four carries as a rookie. The Bengals drafted Giovani Bernard and Rex Burkhead in the 2013 draft to go with BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Bernard Scott and Cedric Peerman, which was too much for Herron to overcome even with Scott still on his way back from a torn ACL.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer also reports that fullback John Conner has been cut. The 2010 fifth-round pick of the Jets had been battling Orson Charles for the job with Chris Pressley on the PUP list to start the regular season. Reedy reports that 2013 sixth-round wide receiver Cobi Hamilton and linebacker J.K. Schaffer have been cut as well.

  1. bengals loaded with talent and know some nice players would be cut but hate to see Conner and Schaffer – both are studs and will picked up by another team, Cobi Hamilton will also help someone needing wide reciever – hope it works out for all

  2. I would have kept Conner over Charles. Running game is improved with him in the game and Charles can’t catch out of the backfield. Also, please cut Taylor Mays…
