Despite $70,000 guarantee, Cowboys cut Brandon Magee

Add the Cowboys to the list of teams who are down to the NFL’s 53-man roster limit.

According to ESPNDallas.com, the Cowboys’ cuts included undrafted linebacker Brandon Magee, whom they liked so much that they guaranteed him $70,000 when they signed him after the draft.

The Cowboys’ other cuts were quarterback Alex Tanney, receiver Anthony Armstrong, tackle Edawn Coughman, safety Jakar Hamilton, linebacker Taylor Reed, tackle Demetress Bell, running back Kendial Lawrence, cornerback Xavier Brewer, defensive end Jerome Long, defensive end Jabari Fletcher, linebacker Caleb McSurdy, linebacker Cameron Lawrence, defensive end Thaddeus Gibson, guard Ray Dominguez, receiver Danny Coale, defensive end Jason Vega, receiver Tim Benford, defensive back Micah Pellerin, defensive back Sterling Moore and guard Kevin Kowalski.

Safety Matt Johnson is heading to season-ending injured reserve.

Magee may not be done with the Cowboys: If no team claims him off waivers, there’s a good chance he’ll be back in Dallas on the practice squad.

  1. Magee had legitimate interest in him after the draft from at least one other team, or a good agent to get that bonus.

I wonder if he has a history of character concerns.

  2. I have just as much NFL success as Matt Johnson. Please sign me to your team Jerry. In fact I will come in and take his role for half the price.
