Jerrod Johnson, six others to join Bears’ practice squad

The Bears, who have just two quarterbacks on their roster, will add a passer to their practice squad.

Former Texas A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson, who spent time with the Seahawks this offseason, was among seven players the Bears agreed to practice-squad deals with on Sunday, the club said.

The Bears still have an open spot on the practice squad.

Johnson, 25, has also played for the Eagles and Steelers since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He has never appeared in a regular-season game.

The Bears also reached practice-squad contracts with linebacker Jerry Franklin, cornerback Demontre Hurst, wide receiver Ricardo Lockette, tight end Fendi Onobun, fullback Harvey Unga and defensive end Aston Whiteside.

Lockette was most recently with the 49ers. Franklin, Hurst, Onobun, Unga and Whiteside were waived by the Bears on Friday.
