The Raiders have announced their practice squad, and the most notable name is one who didn’t appear in the announcement.
Tyler Wilson, the quarterback the Raiders took in the fourth round of the NFL draft, was not on the list. Some expected the Raiders to bring Wilson back for their practice squad after releasing him, but that hasn’t happened yet because we don’t know yet if Wilson cleared waivers.
The names in the Raiders’ announcement are cornerback Chance Casey, receiver Greg Jenkins, safety Shelton Johnson, tight end Brian Leonhardt, guard Lamar Mady, tackle Matt McCants and linebacker Marshall McFadden. That’s seven names, which means there’s still one spot left, and Wilson would make a lot of sense there if he does clear waivers.
At least to the extent that you can call drafting a quarterback in the fourth round only to have him on your practice squad, rather than the 53-man roster, making a lot of sense.
