Could the Steelers be making a change at punter?

According to Mike Garofolo of Fox Sports, the Steelers will be adding ex-Patriots punter Zoltan Mesko on Monday.

The Patriots waived Mesko, their punter for the previous three seasons, on Saturday, keeping rookie Ryan Allen instead.

A left-footed punter, the 27-year-old Mesko posted gross and net averages of 43.1 and 37.9 yards, respectively, in 2012. For his career, Mesko has recorded a 44.2-yard gross average and a 39.5-yard net average, with 101-of-175 punts going unreturned by the opposition.

Mesko’s signing could well mean the Steelers will be replacing Drew Butler, who handled the punting duties in 2012 and beat out veteran Brian Moorman this summer. Butler posted a gross average of 43.8 yards and a net average of 37.8 yards a season ago.

UPDATE 4:58 p.m. ET: The Steelers have confirmed the signing of Mesko and the waiving of Butler.
