Brian Cushing did well for himself in his new deal with the Texans.
A league source tells PFT that Cushing’s deal is a six-year, $55,643,000 contract, with $21 million guaranteed.
Cushing was heading into the final season of the five-year, $14 million contract that he signed as the Texans’ first-round pick in the 2009 NFL draft. He could have played out his contract and tested free agency in March, but he and the Texans were both motivated to get a deal done now.
The 26-year-old Cushing was voted the Texans’ team MVP in 2011 but saw his 2012 season cut short by a torn ACL. He’s now ready to play out the prime years of his career in Houston, and to get rich doing it.
