Rex Ryan has taken some criticism for taking the day off on Saturday to attend his son’s game at Clemson. But his boss isn’t among those criticizing him.
Jets owner Woody Johnson supported Ryan’s decision to go to Clemson and had no problem with it, Johnson told Gary Myers of the New York Daily News.
Johnson also said he is optimistic about the Jets’ chances this season, which clearly puts him outside the norm. Then again, what do you expect him to say?
When Myers asked Johnson if Ryan will be the Jets’ coach beyond this season, Johnson wouldn’t comment. But, again, what would anyone expect? No NFL team is thinking about making changes next offseason when this season hasn’t even started yet.
Johnson obviously wants to put on a happy face and avoid any more controversies than the Jets have already been involved in. Whether his support of his coach will be rewarded with a well-coached team taking the field when the season starts we will see on Sunday.
