In the interest of your safety, please put down your coffee. Maybe sit, even, this news is so shocking.

The Jets might make another move at quarterback.

Coach Rex Ryan hinted that something was up during an appearance with ESPN Radio’s “Mike and Mike” show.

When asked if they planned to keep their current four quarterbacks, Ryan said he was “not 100 percent sure”, adding, “We’ll see how it plays out over the next few days.”

That’s only going to fuel speculation, whether about the health of former starter Mark Sanchez, or the roster spot of newcomer Brady Quinn, whose salary becomes guaranteed if he’s on the roster Sunday.

Sanchez is expected to miss at least this week and next with a shoulder injury, though they’re calling him “day-to-day.” General Manager John Idzik said Wednesday he didn’t think injured reserve was an option.

“We’re not looking at that,” Idzik said, via Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com. “We’re looking at Mark continuing his rehabbing. We said it’s day-to-day. It’s very unpredictable. Mark knows his body better than anybody else. He’s working very hard and so, hopefully, we’ll get him back here soon.”

If it’s going to be soon, they probably wouldn’t need Quinn hanging around, since it’s clear Geno Smith’s going to start and get a chance to make the job his own. They also have Matt Simms, but as with all things Jets, it’s impossible to know what’s coming next.
