Former NFL pass rusher Alex Hall having huge season in CFL

Alex Hall

By Sunday’s end, some NFL fans figure to be lamenting their favorite club’s lack of pass rush.

It’s here that we mention something that came across our radar screen late Sunday morning, courtesy of the Canadian Football League.

As the CFL’s public relations staff noted today, Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive end Alex Hall currently leads the league with 11 sacks. And here’s what’s really interesting: should he continue at this rate and play all 18 games, Hall would notch 22 sacks in regular-season play — one short of Cameron Wake’s 23 sacks in 2008, the CFL pointed out.

Wake, of course, has gone on to NFL stardom with the Miami Dolphins.

Hall’s name may be familiar to some NFL fans. He’s had stints with the Browns, Eagles, Giants and Cardinals. He recorded three sacks as a rookie with Cleveland in 2008.

We certainly don’t want to outright compare Hall to Wake. The latter is a special NFL pass rusher. However, if Hall is getting to the quarterback at this rate in the CFL, it stands to reason he could at least get another look from the NFL at some point.
