Steelers lose Stephens-Howling for season

AP

The hits keep coming for the Steelers.

Hours after Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he expects center Maurkice Pouncey and linebacker Larry Foote to miss the rest of the season with injuries suffered in today’s loss to Tennessee comes news that running back LaRod Stephens-Howling has also been lost for the season.

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that Stephens-Howling suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the year.

The Steelers were hoping Stephens-Howling would be both their primary kickoff returner and a key part of their offense, and he was their leading rusher today against the Titans. But they won’t get any more out of him this year.

  1. even though Pittsburghs defense is still good their old. And the offense is only going to be average at best. No one’s intimidated by the Steelers anymore. PERIOD.

  2. The worst coach in football has only himself to blame. How can a coach watch the train wreck that has been the offensive line for the last four years and waste the career of a HOF QB?

    The OL is a joke!

    The RBs are even worse!

4 wins will be a miracle

  3. Bell will be healthy in a few weeks . I see them signing Dwyer back to replace Howlings . Cant replace Pouncey . Long season left to go . Other teams can laugh and make fun of the Steelers . But this CAN happen to any team any week . Steelers week one , maybe your team next week . So dont get to happy or giddy .

  4. It’d be easier to feel bad for the Steelers’ injuries if they weren’t always trying their damndest to injure everyone else.

  5. As a bengal fan this news news come to me as disappointing news. I love it when our teams play against each other with our best men as their best men out on the field. Season not over yet I’m to familiar with your team but next man needs to step it up. Good luck in season boys!!! May we all have a good season and however the division falls make ravens last in this division.

  6. Maybe the Steeler fans on this board will think twice before yukking it up when the Raven players Jacobi Jones and Michael Oher got injured in the Thursday night game. What GOES around COMES around.

  7. Ladies and gentlemen,

    Todd Haley.

    ————————————

I think you may be onto something here. Seems that nothing good has happened since he has walked in the door and Arians has walked out.

  8. Karma for team doctor Rydze supplying steroids for so many years. Organization built on cheating.

  9. This at least three years of major injuries in a row for the steelers. The hits just keep coming and coming. Somehow, I hope to see them fight through all this bad luck.

  10. No Team in the North looks Worthy..they all LOST..but damn this is REDICULOUS 3 season ending injuries in one day? 4real? I see Dwyer back in Pittsburgh by Tuesday ..maybe Ced Benson..lol but with that atrocious O-Line will it matter? With Haley callin for WR screens on 3rd & 9 will it matter? Midas well just line it up and pass every play..4 & 5 WR sets like the Rams use to

  11. This team was awful last yearvwhen they lost to three of the worst teams in football – titans, browns, and raiders. Now a loss at home to the titans. If observers were objective and not focused on tradition, this team should have been picked for 8-8 at best.

  12. Old and slow? Pouncey age 24, Stephens-Howling age 26, Foote age 33.

The problem is old all right, Haley age 46.

  13. Steelers fans crying for the head of Mike Tomlin are disgusting. Your coach won TWO Super Bowls in the last six seasons, for crying out loud. You are the most insufferable spoiled brats in the whole NFL. Some teams didn’t even win a playoff game in the last 20 years. Every team sucks sometimes. Welcome to the real world.

  14. As bad as the injuries are (and they are bad), I hope they don’t overshadow all of the other problems this team needs to start focusing on. I don’t mind losing, but I’m tired of the sloppy play, especially since it cost them several games last year.

  15. Granted, this team has had real bad luck with the injury bug, but not regenerating youth at various positions over the last 5 years, started this decline. They’ve spun their wheels on the OL, RB and LB positions year after year with unacceptable results. I know Tomlin and Colbert–who haven’t had the greatest of drafts lately–hate the word, “rebuild,” but this team is either too old, too young or too thin at almost every position not to consider revamping the squad.

  16. NEXT MAN UP!!!!!

Lets be honest, the only injury that hurts is Pouncey. There is yourh behind Foote. Give them a chance to step up. Just like Joey Porter, LeVonn Kirkland and James Harrison. See if someone will step up, if not, you have Spence next year. LSH has been around for a month. Bell, who would have replaced him anyway will be back soon.

With Pouncey, you lost the play caller. The offensive line is young and inexperienced anyway, now they lost the most important piece. Either trade for Legurski, or bring back Starks. That way, Beachum can go straight Center, and we still have some depth on the line.

  17. Cedric Benson & Michael Turner are free agents. I’ve never felt that Redman could be a starting RB & he has never shown anyone that he could. It wouldn’t even be a bad idea to bring back Dwyer or give Curtis McNeal a shot.

  18. Man, as a Titans fan, I loved seeing that beat down today. But as a football fan/human being, I hated seeing all those quality players go down.

I think people need to be realistic about the Steelers this season. They were a mediocre team before today.

Now they are just flat out below average.

  19. If the Steelers are going to sign a RB they better hurry if they want first choice of what’s available. You can bet the Giants are in the market for a RB also after that horrible performance from David Wilson. The guy fumbles almost as much as Bryce Brown.

  20. What comes around goes around. They’ve done this to other teams for a number of years. How does it feel to be headed toward having 12 guys on IR? They mocked and ridiculed others when it happened to them, saying stuff like “You make your own breaks.” Well, time for these dudes to pony up. Get used to it. The worm has turned and the cycles of the NFL are moving ahead toward a new power alignment. Enjoy your next five rebuilding years.

  21. The only silver lining I can see this year is hopefully a top 10 pick and a Haley firing. Maybe even step back and look at Colbert and Tomlinson too.

  22. If we keep losing, good if gets Tomlin fired. Colbert too.high draft picks on o line…. Really ?? Great qb, good receivers, good d. And still can’t overcome lousy o line and lousier head coach. Time for liberal Rooneys to drop this free loader head coach..

  23. And you thought the Ravens looked bad ? lol

Guess it’s already time to bust out the reel to reels of the 1970’s SB’s. lol

We have 6 blah blah blah…. call me when you have 6 blah blah blah lol

For the record, I’m not laughing at the injuries, that is a shame and I don’t wish that upon anyone. But I am laughing at the sad state of affairs the Steelers and their fans find themselves in. lol

  24. I didn’t know Stephen McTowelie was a RB for the Steelers? Now that he’s injured maybe he can get his old job at PF Chang’s back…

    Hahahahaha!!!!!! Bite me sir Karma!

  26. been a fan for 50 yrs but i dont see this team going anywhere. may get a top 5 draft pick in 2014 draft. but i can live with this. so many grewat years. more than 95 percent of the other teams out there.

  27. Steelers were bad last year and did nothing to fix their problems. Titans made significant changes and seem to be on the up swing.

  28. “Go sign Willis Mcgahee…”

They can’t. I think McGahee filed a restraining order against Ryan Clark after he trucked him into oblivion a few years back. Clark can’t be within 100 yards of him.

Yes, that’s good. Taking consolation in the distant past has helped many Steelers fans avoid facing the painful reality that is the present.

  30. Hey flaccodelic, you do realize he doesn’t even play for the Ravens anymore, right? Why are you so mad, it was j……….nevermind, forgot about Thursday night. Understandable.

  31. Steelers will finish 2-14. Suck for Clowney. Fire Colbert, Haley and Tomlin. And whoever the strength and conditioning coach is. Dick LeBeau….please dont leave.

    Wait a minute …….. you didn’t?!

  33. Mn, the injury bug bit hard…. real hard. My Steelers aren’t looking too good thus far, but it’s just one game and there were a few nice glimmers through the first game. Fortunately, Kelvin Beachum looks like he may work well at center, but the rest of the O-line…. meh…

  34. Sucks to lose Foote but our D just got younger having to start Wilson or Williams this week. Now it’s time to start the backup OC and bench Haley and see how it goes. This week is on MNF so the WHOLE nation will be watching I hope we don’t lay another dud….

Just like last year when the Ravens fans were yukking it up when Big Ben got hurt….. You are right what Goes around DOES Come Around.
