Griffin “wired” to play tonight

Griffin

As expected, the knee of Robert Griffin III is healed. As expected, he’ll start on Monday night against the Eagles.

As expected, he’s pretty excited.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Griffin is “wired” for the game. Anxious to play, the source said Griffin has no concerns about the injury.

On one hand, that’s the right mindset when it comes to playing football. On the other hand, and as our friend Tom Curran of CSNNE.com astutely pointed out during Friday’s PFT Live, there’s a certain wisdom that flows from not playing every play like it’s the player’s last play.

Reckless abandon is admirable at times, but it can lead to injury. While it’s unwise to worry about getting injured while playing, there’s a sweet spot between not caring about getting hurt and caring about not doing something that will get a guy hurt.

Durability isn’t about taking every hit and getting up like Rocky Balboa. It’s about finding a way to take as few hits as possible without being afraid of getting hit.

Griffin has no fear of getting hit. But he needs to avoid taking as many hits as he can, if he hopes to start every game this year and to carry the Redskins back to the postseason.
