The Steelers won’t be able to adequately replace center Maurkice Pouncey, who was lost for the season with a knee injury in yesterday’s opener.

But all things considered, they did about as well as they could.

According to Adam Caplan of TheSidelineView.com, the Steelers are signing former Titans starter Fernando Velasco to a one-year deal.

Velasco started all 16 games for the Titans last year, but lost his job to free agent pickup Rob Turner, as the Titans remade the middle of their line.

Velasco’s not a world-beater but he is a solid pickup, and being able to get someone with any degree of recent experience after rosters are settled is a bonus.
