Patriots put Shane Vereen on short-term IR

As it turns out, Patriots running back Shane Vereen is going to miss more than a few weeks.

The team announced Vereen was placed on injured reserve/designated for return, which will mean at least an eight week absence.

Vereen broke a small bone in his wrist on his first play of Sunday’s win over the Bills, but still had 159 yards from scrimmage, including 101 rushing yards.

Now they might have to turn back to Stevan Ridley, who was benched in favor of Vereen after a second-quarter fumble.

To take Vereen’s roster spot, they brought back tight end Matthew Mulligan, who spent two days on their roster last week. The former Jets and Rams tight end was in camp with the Packers this summer.

  1. This is not good news. What happened to a one month recovery? I’m glad they signed Leon Washington while he is not as explosive as Vereen, maybe his veteran leadership will help and he has a similar skill set.

And PLEASE put Leon Washington on the field for kickoff returns ! Blount is not the answer.

  2. I’m sure “BB” has it covered. After all, he didn’t keep any wide receivers from last year and he let Danny Woodhead, an excellent receiving back, walk. All part of his master plan (LOL).

    Welcome to our world.
    Signed a Packer fan.

Uhh, what? Last I checked you have basically all your starters in, minus a guy on defense and Bulaga. So what are you talking about?

  4. Relax! Vereen is a good player, but that’s why every team has or should have (cowboys) quality depth. Injuries always happen and that’s just the way it is. No whining
