Andy Reid on Jamaal Charles: I think he’ll be OK for Sunday

After the Chiefs’ 28-2 win over the Jaguars, coach Andy Reid said that he thought running back Jamaal Charles would be fine after leaving the game with a quad injury.

Nothing seems to have changed in the last few days. Charles was listed on the team’s injury report as a non-participant in practice, but Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star reports that he was doing light drills during the portion of practice open to the media. Charles said afterward that he fully expects to play against the Cowboys on Sunday and that he “wouldn’t miss this game for nothing.”

Reid was a bit more circumspect, but all signs are pointing toward Charles being in the lineup for Kansas City’s home opener.

“Really, the only injury is Jamaal,” Reid said, via Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star. “We’re just taking it slow. I think he’ll be OK for the game. We’ll just see how it all works out.”

The only other Chief who was less than a full participant in Wednesday’s practice was tight end Travis Kelce, who was limited by the knee injury that kept him out against Jacksonville.

  1. “wouldn’t miss this game for nothing.”

So lets break that down: He would not miss the game even if you gave him nothing. He should want to be in the game so the prospect of someone giving him nothing not to be in the game… well I’m not sure that means much.

Shouldn’t it be, “wouldn’t miss this game for everything” — thus he wouldn’t miss the game even if you gave him everything. However this is silly since I’m sure there is something he could be given to miss the game, for example lets say a Wizard could offer him eternal life — that’s a deal worth taking to miss the game.

  2. yeah. Jamaal is so darn injury prone. how many games has he missed due to injury outside the complete freak ACL tear, the ACL tear he returned from and ran for 1500 yards last year.

he may go out of the game at times with small little injuries, but unlike a lot of backs, he doesn’t let it keep him out of games. he comes back in most of the time and is ready by the next week every time.

  3. “It’s a matter of time before Charles goes out for the year. He’s injury prone back who never seems to get healthy during his career..”

    Charles games played by year,
    2008 16
    2009 15
    2010 16
    2011 2 torn ACL
    2012 16
so one injury in 5 years makes him an injury prone back?

  4. If the Chiefs only win one more game this year I pray it’s the Eagles. Then perhaps the jilted Philly fans can finally quit sharing their Andy Reid wisdom with the world
