Harbaugh gets a chance at birthday revenge on Carroll

In a Sunday Night Football game that contains plenty of intriguing story lines, here’s one that needs to be mentioned.

Last December, in the second-to-last game of the regular season, the Seahawks blew out the 49ers in Seattle on December 23rd.  It was coach Jim Harbaugh’s 49th birthday.

Now, in the second game of the new regular season, the two teams get together again in Seattle.  On Pete Carroll’s birthday.

And so Harbaugh and his 49ers have a chance to put the deuce in the 62 on Carroll’s cake.

Far more is at stake in this one than preventing Carroll from getting his birthday wish.  But turning the tables for Harbaugh on Carroll will have extra meaning on Sunday night in Seattle.

A win for San Fran also would set the stage for a great 50th birthday present for Harbaugh.  While hardly a knockout blow in Week Two, winning in Seattle with a rematch at Candlestick Park would give the 49ers a chance to pull off a sweep of the Seahawks, which in light of the head-to-head tiebreaker essentially becomes a three-game swing.

  1. Are there any two coaches that despise each other more than these two… If there are no one ever talks about them.

  2. Rain or shine, Pete will come rolling up to the CLink in his all white Miata with the top down, cuz that’s how he rolls…

  3. I didn’t think it was possible for me to like Pete Carroll. Then HarBAWL started whining and Carroll suddenly doesn’t seem so bad.

  4. What really bugs Hawk fans is the fact that Carroll was born in San Francisco and is a Californian through and through. He secretly roots for San Francisco and wished he had Harbaughs job.

  5. Gonna be a hood game. Just don’t givecarrol a reason to ggive us a birthday honk on the way out lol

  6. If the 49ers beat the Seahawks in our place I’ll shave my own eyebrow.

Harbaugh should be more concerned about how to score more than 13 points on the Seahawks defense than winning the game. It’s been 20 months since his team did that.

  7. I love it when the 9 ERs point out how many Rings they have.
Really since The Hawks have joined the NFC West its pretty obvious who has ruled the Division. Seattle, AZ and the 9 ERS are not but 3rd best! Its Game time ERS and its about Sunday..ONLY. Those rings were earned before you got back on the band wagon.

  8. “And so Harbaugh and his 49ers have a chance to put the deuce in the 62 on Carroll’s cake.”

Thank you for writing this sentence. If not for you, it may have never been.

  9. The idea that professional coaches coach harder because of personality conflicts with opposing coaches is ludicrous. Did Harbaugh think “Oh, I’m just not into this weeks game plan” when coaching against his dear Brother in last season’s Superbowl? Gives you something to write about, but no doubt they’re doing everything possible to win EVERY week.

  10. Colon Kaepernick is gonna be crapping his pants. We’ve got some thunder and lightning up here in Seattle today. Seems a poetic compliment for the Legion of BOOM…

    Go Hawks!

  11. Seattle barely puts 12pts on the Panthers, a team that the bills just lit up for 24pts, this is going to be a blow out for the niners.
