The Redskins have signed kicker John Potter, Chris Russell of ESPN 980 in Washington D.C. reported Saturday morning.
Potter will presumably kick off and handle extra points and field goals if Washington’s regular kicker, Kai Forbath, is unable to play in Sunday’s game at Green Bay because of a groin injury.
Adding Potter means Washington would have to release or waive someone to stay at the 53-player roster limit.
The 23-year-old Potter was a seventh-round pick of the Bills in 2012 and was Buffalo’s kickoff specialist for six games. Potter played in two preseason games with Washington this summer.
Potter has not attempted a field goal or extra point in an NFL game. He connected on 47-of-65 field goals in four seasons at Western Michigan from 2008-2011.
