Giants will kick tires on Kerry Rhodes on Tuesday

There had been no buzz on veteran free-agent safety Kerry Rhodes.

Key words:  “Had been.”

Per a league source, Rhodes will work out with the Giants on Tuesday.

Rhodes previously had been drawing no interest after being cut by the Cardinals in March.  Some say he wants too much money; others say he hadn’t had the chance in recent months to reject a minimum-salary offer.  The lack of opportunities has prompted some speculation that Rhodes became radioactive in the wake of the emergence of Internet rumors in March regarding his sexuality.  (Rhodes has denied those rumors, strongly.)

Regardless of the real reasons why Rhodes doesn’t currently have a roster spot, the Giants will take a look at Rhodes on Tuesday.  If they like what they see, the question then becomes whether the Giants will offer him the minimum for his level of experience ($840,000), or something more than that.

  1. Doesn’t this guy have a reputation of being a bad locker room guy? I vaguely remember the Jets calling him Hollywood because he cared more about the star lifestyle than game prep.

  2. Let me assure you he has plenty left in the tank. As a Cardinals fan I watched every game, and Kerry was consistently one of our best players on defense. He played the run well and still has the range to pass defend.
Check out multiple sites that rank players based on position and Rhodes was listed as a top 10 safety last year. I hear he’s been conservative with his money and doesn’t have to play, so he may have been holding out for an offer bigger than the vet minimum. It blows my mind he’s still available. It would be a great pickup by the Giants.

  3. Giants only have roughly $500,000 in Cap space. They’d have to make another significant transaction to afford Rhodes.

  4. Rhodes was a baller last year. He made a game saving tackle on a goal line stand last year so not wanting to hit is false. He can still cover as well. Giants should sign him today. Not Tuesday

  5. “Sweeter than Domino sugar.”

But my comment gets erased? Let me try this again, ahem: I’ve always wondered my he enjoyed wearing pink even when it wasnt Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

  6. Get up to date, rick…

Most of the positive comments I get are from one of my several pink shirts; I am an old man, but love the comments from the young chicks!

  7. I don´t get it. Our problem is not the safety position, it´s constantly turning the ball over and total incompetence in the red zone. Even the one, we had last night, wouldn´t happen, if there hadn´t been a couple of bad calls in between.

  8. #1: This guy is a great football player! He knock the snot & ball out of Mike Vick last year on a goal line stance…Cards ran it back 97 yards for a TD. #2. only reason he isn’t on the Cards is that they got cheap (what’s new?). #3. He’s a team leader…especially when an idiot like Darnell Dockett is on your team (that’s the worthless guy on their team). #4 If your in the business of winning football games, this guy should be on your team.
