Meriweather strikes again, and knocks himself out of the game

images

Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather now has used the crown of his helmet twice against opposing ball carriers.

The first time, he knocked Packers running back Eddie Lacy out of the game. The second time, Meriweather knocked himself out.

With running back James Starks clearly outside the tackle box, Meriweather hit Starks in the helmet with the top of Meriweather’s helmet. Under rules passed by the NFL in March, it’s supposed to be a violation. It wasn’t called.

Starks also had dipped his helmet, but Starks did not deliver a blow with the top of the helmet. Meriweather, who was one of the players who applied illegal helmet-to-helmet hits during a tight real-time window on October 17, 2010 (along with Dunta Robinson and James Harrison), could be facing multiple fines arising from Sunday’s game.

But Meriweather won’t be using his helmet again on Sunday. The Redskins have announced that Meriweather has been ruled out for the rest of the game.
