Paul Soliai misses practice with knee injury

The Dolphins kicked off their practice week on Tuesday without defensive tackle Paul Soliai.

Soliai was forced out of the win over the Colts with a knee injury and indications after the game were that the injury could lead him to miss the Week Three date with the Falcons as well. Coach Joe Philbin isn’t saying whether it will or not at this point in the week, but he’s comfortable going with Jared Odrick and Randy Starks should Soliai remain out.

“We’ll see how the week unfolds,” Philbin said, via Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald. “I’m confident we’ll have good defensive line depth on the field on Sunday.”

The Dolphins signed a pair of defensive tackles — Isaako Aaitui and Al Lapuaho — to the practice squad on Tuesday, a sign that they feel there’s a good chance that they’ll need to bolster that depth because Soliai isn’t going to be active.

Safety Chris Clemons also missed practice with an undisclosed injury. Cornerbacks Will Davis, Dimitri Patterson and Jamar Taylor all practiced after missing Sunday’s victory, however.

  1. Paul…..that would be great, and I truly hope your right, but Miami really has to play there best game to beat ATL. But Miami has a legit chance Sunday. Last I checked Vegas had them 1.5pt favorites.

  2. Soliai is a stud in the middle but if there is one position the Dolphins can lose a starter for a week or two, it’s DT. They had to cut a very good prospect but the Pats snapped him up on waivers before he made it through to the practice squad.

The real concern in facing the Falcons is the health of the secondary–and the ability to stop Gonzalez from having a big game.

  3. Bill,
I’m not so sure if putting Jordan, a rookie who has seen limited action because of his shoulder, on Gonzalez, a first ballet HOF, is such a good idea. He will be good in time, but he still has A LOT to learn…

  4. I like our chances Sunday. 2 of the Falcons front 7 are out. Clabo knows the Atlanta OL calls & Grimes knows the weakness of the DBs. That should help us.

With Jackson out, Jacquizz is their only RB threat. Julio Jones will get his 100 with Grimes on him (a player who went against him every day in camp) Roddy White has such a bad ankle he has 5 catches and 40 yds in 2 games this year.

If we contain Gonzalez and pressure Matty Ice and play a good offensive game there’s a huge chance for a win

  5. We have depth a DT but he’s the best run stopper. I’ve already seen this year that the run defense isn’t as stoup without Dansby and Burnett. I really like Ellerbe and Wheeler, but they don’t hit the holes like Dansby and Burnett did. They were slow, they couldn’t cover, and they got beat a lot, but those guys could stop the run. With them gone, Solai is the most important piece to stopping the run for this defense.
