Report: Buccaneers release Peyton Hillis

Hillis

The Buccaneers have pared a familiar name from their depth chart at running back.

The club has released Peyton Hills, Jenna Laine of SportsTalkFlorida.com reported on Saturday.

Hillis, 27, did not play in the Buccaneers’ first two regular-season games.

Hillis’ best season came in 2010, when he gained a combined 1,654 rushing-receiving yards and scored 13 touchdowns for Cleveland. However, his production slipped the next season, and he moved on to Kansas City for the 2012 campaign. Hillis rushed for 309 yards and a TD in 13 games (two starts) in his lone season with the Chiefs. The Buccaneers signed him in July.

Hillis’ departure leaves Brian Leonard and Mike James as the backups to Buccaneers featured back Doug Martin.
