Shortly after wide receiver Malcom Floyd was carted off the field following a hit to the head and neck against the Eagles, Chargers coach Mike McCoy said that Floyd was “fine.”

It’s becoming apparent that McCoy meant fine in respect to the kind of severe injury one fears when a player is strapped to a backboard and taken to the hospital as opposed to meaning that Floyd was fine to get back on the field. Floyd’s missed the last two games and now the Chargers have signed a veteran wideout in a signal that Floyd won’t be back in the immediate future either.

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that Lavelle Hawkins has signed with the Chargers. Hawkins spent five years with the Titans after they made him a fourth-round pick in 2008. Hawkins spent time with the Patriots and 49ers in the offseason, but didn’t make either club.

Hawkins joins Eddie Royal, Vincent Brown, Keenan Allen and Seyi Ajirotutu as healthy members of the depth chart at receiver.
