Packers rule out Casey Hayward and James Starks

A week off wasn’t enough for two members of the Packers to get healthy enough to play against the Lions this Sunday.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said that neither cornerback Casey Hayward nor running back James Starks will be in the lineup. Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that McCarthy said he didn’t know when Hayward would be recovered from the hamstring injury that has kept him out for the entire regular season.

Starks hurt his knee in Week Three against the Bengals and McCarthy said Wednesday that it would be a couple of weeks before he’s well enough to return. Eddie Lacy has been practicing this week after recovering from a concussion suffered against the Redskins in Week Two.

Tight end Jermichael Finley was a full participant in practice as he makes his return from his own concussion. Linebacker Clay Matthews was limited by a hamstring injury, but McCarthy said that he’s doing better and the team is hopeful that he’ll do more on Thursday.

  1. Packers should sign RB -KR Da’rel Scott. he has blinding speed and he could run the sweep and catch passes in the flat for big gains. TT Should look at signing DE Richard Seymour as a 3rd down pass rushing specialist. He could be the Packers 21st century version of Charles Haley.

  2. I have a great deal of respect for this Lions team. Good luck to our friends on the other side of the lake, and lets hope it’s a well played game with no injuries.

p.s. Thank you for slaughtering the hapless and tasteless Bears this last weekend, and exposing them for the frauds that they are.

  3. That’s a lot of players out after a bye week. Maybe they’re just scared to play the Lions. If a Dalton-led Bengals squad can throttle them, just imagine how Stafford’s going to humiliate that secondary.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    The Lions.

    You’re talking about THE LIONS.

  5. Mike can deny it, but year in year out the Packers have the most injured team. Hamstrings are the flavor of the month in Green Bay, I’m glad Mike’s research into preventing injuries has worked soooo well. This team is soft.

  6. Maybe Packers 45 Lions 27
    Maybe Lions 45 Packers 27

    I don’t know for certain.

But I do know that at one point Rodgers will get mad at a receiver for not performing some sort of miracle and McCarthy will be shown on the sideline at some point with this crybaby look like he was cheated out of a surprise from his box of Cracker Jacks.

  7. Play of the lines will determine the game. Lions could have one of the best D-lines in the league if they played up to their potential every game.

Look for Rodgers to be under pressure a lot, and get hit early and often. Lions with the upset. Or not. Should make for a good Thanksgiving rematch either way.

  8. I thought there was no way the Packers would/should keep Starks based on his injury history, and sure enough, he is injured quickly this year too. I wouldn’t be opposed to simply cutting him at this point. If he isn’t available in 3 weeks or gets injured again this year, the packers really need to cut bait on him.

  9. The way Reggie Bush is playing, I think him or Calvin hage a huge day and it might be too much for the Packers to handle….BUT you can never count Rodgers out… I think it will be a good competitive game, down to the last 2 minutes.
