The last bit of paperwork has been done and Josh Freeman is officially a member of the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings officially added Freeman to the 53-man roster on Tuesday. They waived quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson to clear space for Freeman.

Bethel-Thompson was undrafted out of Sacramento State in 2011, bounced around the UFL and had brief stints with the 49ers and Dolphins before landing the third quarterback job in Minnesota last season. He’s never played in a regular season game and has practice squad eligibility remaining should the Vikings want to bring him back once he clear waivers.

The Vikings have already said that either Matt Cassel or Christian Ponder will be starting against the Panthers this weekend while Freeman familiarizes himself with the offense. The Vikings reportedly plan to use the rest of this season to find out if any of the three quarterbacks are going to be part of their future, promising Freeman nothing more than a chance to compete for snaps.
