Rex clears it up: “Mark Sanchez is not dead”

Get Rex Ryan a white coat and a stethoscope, in preparation for his next career as a doctor.

While the Jets coach was tap-dancing around questions about quarterback Mark Sanchez’s future, he made one declaration that’s hard to argue with.

We’re acting like he’s dead. Mark Sanchez is not dead,” Ryan said, via Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. “Sanchez is going to be 100 percent healthy, guys. It’s not like his career’s over.”

Well, perhaps not, but every appearance is that his Jets career is with his season-ending shoulder surgery (and the reported blow-up with management that preceded it). The precocious play of rookie Geno Smith and Sanchez’s contract makes is all but certain he’ll be gone by the time he’s well.

That one, Ryan couldn’t answer as definitively, especially after mentioning of IR’d linebacker Antwan Barnes: “Hope he has a speedy recovery and he’s a Jet next year.”

“I don’t want to get into that,” Ryan replied when asked if Sanchez would play for the Jets again. “Whether he’s here or whatever, . . . our thing is doing what’s best for Mark, which would be to get him healthy. . . .

“Well again, I’ll say it about anybody. Guys, you know how I feel about all of our players. I never want to lose a player ever. But I also understand there’s business sides for every decision, for Barnes included and Mark and every player.”

And whether the Jets want to admit it or not, that bit of business that pertains to Sanchez appears to be terminal.

  1. “Okay, that clears that up. Now then moving on to the next order of business…doesn’t everyone feel the Bucs have been a much bigger circus than we have been so far this season?” – Rex Ryan

  2. Sanchez put on a great show as a clipboard-holder and cheerleader on Monday, he should definitely be qualified for one of those jobs when he comes back.

  3. Poor Rex, I think he is a great coach he has to deal with NY media who can be brutal, they will ask the same questions over and over but sometimes that’s good. I wish The Bay area reporters were more like that. Raiders can go out and blow again and they will ask Dennis Allen what he had for breakfast this morning

  4. You are learning Rex. The players who are on the team are the ones who deserve your attention and the fans. The season is over for Sanchez not the rest of the team.

  5. I have to admit that I was one of the guys to rip on the Jets with Sanchez as QB…it was kind of easy…but now I am kinda rooting for the. Geno looked very impressive on Monday. The defense looked good too. Rex catches a lot of flack, but we gotta remember that he only coaches the players he has. I do not recall Rex making awful decisions like Atlanta’s coach just made…

No matter what happens, we will always have the butt fumble.

    Not “we will”, you will!

(Is that all there is to your life?)

Take a calculator and figure what Sanchez made Monday night, then take your yearly income and compare the two.

Bet the higher amount belongs to Sanchez.
