David Wilson doesn’t need surgery, but far from cleared

Giants running back David Wilson is still going to miss some time.

But he doesn’t need surgery, which would have caused him to miss the rest of the regular season.

According to Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger, Wilson’s second opinion on his neck revealed that surgery was not immediately recommended. At the moment, he’s looking at a three- to four-week absence from the lineup.

Of course, the fear of spinal stenosis complicates matters as well, and Wilson’s far from a clean bill of health. The next few weeks of treatment will likely determine how they proceed, after he’s evaluated again.

The Giants are running low on backs at the moment, with just rookie Michael Cox healthy for practice Monday, though Brandon Jacobs is expected back from a hamstring strain later this week.
