Russ Brandon: Hopefully E.J. Manuel is back in next month or so

The Bills have spent the early part of the week shoring up their quarterback situation once again, but the arrival of Matt Flynn hasn’t made anyone miss E.J. Manuel’s presence in the lineup.

It’s still unclear when the team will get him back in the lineup, although coach Doug Marrone said Monday that Manuel is “ahead of schedule” in his recovery from knee surgery. Bills CEO Russ Brandon gave a little more color on the general timeline that’s in play during an appearance on WGR 550 on Wednesday.

“He’s here constantly going through the rehab process with our training staff,” Brandon said “Hopefully he’ll continue to progress. I don’t have a timetable at this point, but hopefully we can get E.J. back on the field as soon as possible. I know that’s what he wants too. Coach will address it later today. Hopefully we’ll have him back in the next month or so.”

The Bills have five games between now and November 17 and then they have a bye in Week 12, which could be the time they are able to get Manuel back on the field. That’s a lot of time to fill with Thad Lewis, Jeff Tuel, Flynn or anyone else who might join the team, but it will be worth the wait if Manuel is 100 percent once he’s back on the field.
