A team running short on running backs had a welcome sight Thursday, as the Giants got Andre Brown back on the practice field.

Brown was placed on injured reserve/designated for return after breaking his leg in the final preseason game, and can’t play until Nov. 10.

But he was cleared to get back to practice today, which can only add a ray of hope to an 0-6 team that has plowed through backs all season, forcing them to bring in Brandon Jacobs and Peyton Hillis to get through.

The Giants also started the PUP clock on defensive tackle Markus Kuhn by putting him on the practice field. He now has three weeks to prepare to be activated (or not).

“There’s a legitimate window there that we would have to follow anyway,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said of both, via Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger. “But if it happens faster, then fine. But we’re going to move it slow so we can have a chance to get them in the best possible position when we do turn them loose.”

The Giants could use both immediately if they were well, but will welcome the reinforcements whenever they can get them.
