The Vikings were bracing themselves yesterday for a significant lack of Harrison Smith, and now there’s a time frame.
According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, the Vikings will place Smith on injured reserve/designated for return, which will keep him out eight weeks.
That leaves the door open for a return late in the year, and if Josh Freeman propels them into playoff contention, getting Smith back then would be a significant boost.
Surgery was reported as a possibility yesterday, but it was mentioned as something that would end his season. Apparently, the Vikings have reason to think a comeback is possible, causing them to leave the door ajar.
