Rams have discussed Tim Tebow, but probably won’t sign him

AP

Rams quarterback Sam Bradford suffered a knee injury today, which means St. Louis may be in the market for a new quarterback.

Tebow time?

Not quite. Michael Silver of NFL Network reports that the Rams have discussed the possibility of signing Tim Tebow, but it’s unlikely that they will sign him.

This isn’t the first time the Rams have been linked to Tebow. In 2011, just before the Broncos traded Tebow to the Jets, there was a report that trade talks could break down and the Rams could swoop in to get Tebow from Denver.

This year, however, when Tebow hit free agency, the Rams showed no interest in signing him.

The Rams probably aren’t interested now, either. But the injury to Bradford at least has Tebow’s name being bandied about, something that hadn’t happened much since the Patriots released him at the end of the preseason.

  1. What’s to discuss?

Tim Tebow sucks. End of discussion.

But it’ll be so funny to put his Rams highlights to yakety sax! The season would be so much more entertaining!

  2. Who else? It’s not like there’s a huge stable of quality FA QBs out there. The only other viable option might be Vince Young…

  3. The Jags had 6 points today, double their output from their last home game. And no in Jacksonville cares about them. Really….how could Tebow be any worse. There is no one I have ever seen get treated so bad that didn’t deserve it like what I have seen do to Tebow. That Jacksonville won’t even look at Tebow makes me think team ownership is looking to make themselves as irrelevant as possible so they can move the team.

  4. According to Fisher,They are going to wait until they get a MRI done on Bradford when they get back to St.Louis so this a outright lie!!!!

  5. Bus Cook: “There is no truth to the reports connecting Brett with the Rams. Although several teams have expressed interest over the last week.”

  6. They discussed him, and then they passed the bong around one more time while they laughed hysterically like hyenas

  7. The problem with the Tebow story is simple. He was never given the chance to fail, and that he deserves. You can put out all the scouting reports saying his mechanics are garbage you want and that he sucks. Well if he sucks, let him prove it. Then everyone can move on, the right way.

  8. LOL… Coach Fisher hates Vince so much he would rather pick up Tebow… LOL

Fish… So he has enjoyed a little one on one time with the wife while he played for you in TN.

Let it go. Do what’s best for the team…

  9. Wouldn’t want a winner like Tebow on your team. Don’t do it, Rams. Love, your division rivals.

  10. Les Snead: “Hey Jeff, our QB situation sure sucks right now.”

Jeff Fischer: “Sure does Les, but it could be worse.”

    Les Snead: “How you figure?”

Jeff Fischer: “We could have Tim Tebow.”

And that PFT was the discussion.

    The Steelers agree.

  12. @multiplemiggs:

when you’re put into a preseason game in the second half with players who won’t make an NFL team, you’re success is tied to theirs’. They won’t succeed.

    Rams could do worse.

It’s the circus Tebow brings with him. No he can’t be any worse than what Jacksonville is doing, but who’s paying attention to the Jaguars? With Tebow they would still be losing, but with a lot of extra attention. Then when Jacksonville gets rid of him they end up looking like the bad guys. Who needs it. If I’m Jacksonville I’m burying my head in the sand the best I can. I’m not bring the Tim Tebow circus to the town where he is the most popular.

  14. Multiplemiggs……uh tebow *has* failed. He’s has the lowest QB rating….terrible passing stats, lots of losses…not to mention the preseason game where he passed for negative yards.

  15. There are tons of conservative evangelicals in Missouri. They’ll love Tebow there, whether or not they’re football fans.

  16. Any circus around Tim Tebow is a media driven one. Now back to your stories of how the Redskins need to change their name!

  17. If Tebow gets to face Matt Moore and Caleb Haine and Tyler Thigpen and Mark Sanchez and Christian Ponder and Carson Palmer’s walking corpse every week then sign him. But if he’s going to be playing legitimate NFL QB’s then he’ll get exposed like he did when he played Matthew Stafford and Tom Brady.

He’s just too scatter shot to be able to put up enough points to win in today’s NFL. All that spread option stuff can help keep games close against other bad QB’s but Tebow has too many 3 and out’s to even be competitive against good offenses.

  18. LOL. The Tebow fans will never get it. They’ll never allow themselves to see what is plain to every other rational human on Earth. Tebow is nowhere near good enough to play QB in the NFL. He is not good enough to play any other position either in a way that would justify bumping an NFL caliber player at that position off of the roster.

But hey, go ahead and sign him if you’re wanting to tank for that early draft pick. Because the Rams would be guaranteed to lose every remaining game on the schedule by signing him.

  19. Don’t even think about it!!!

They should just bring in Pat White and/or Dennis Dixon.

The season has already been a disappointment, but don’t make it circus.

  20. Signing Tebow to be your QB would tell your fans that the team has given up on trying to improve. It’s hard to tell, but the Jags are trying to build a team. In St. Louis, Fisher doesn’t seem like the type of coach who wants to bring the circus to his team.

  21. The problem with the Tebow story is simple. He was never given the chance to fail, and that he deserves. You can put out all the scouting reports saying his mechanics are garbage you want and that he sucks. Well if he sucks, let him prove it. Then everyone can move on, the right way.
    ——————-

He has proven it. Over and over and over again. Tebow fans can only point to one game against an injury-depleted Steelers defense. Other that one game, he has literally looked like a JV high school QB among men in every bit of action he’s seen. In Denver he sucked for 58 minutes out of 60 in every game he played, except one. His defense was the only reason those games were even close. He looked like hot garbage with every snap he took in New York. And then looked absolutely terrible playing against roster bubble guys during his action with New England during the preseason. He’s had plenty of chances to impress. And he’s failed.

You wanna see the Jags look even worse than they do now? Sign Tebow. They won’t even get 3 points per game. They’ll go scoreless in every game all the way to 0-16, unless the defense can get lucky with a pick 6 here and there or perhaps a special teams TD here and there.

  22. if Timmy Tebow wasnt an outspoken Christian his name wouldn’t even be up for consideration in these situations, if it really is at all. He has been god awful at the one thing you can’t fake as an NFL QB, the ability to throw the football, the foundation of any qbs skill set. Its shocking that he still gets his name bantered about at this point.

  23. They could throw the night janitor at the practice facility out there and would do was well as Timmy. When are peeople gonna wake up and see the whole situation for what it is. (Basically a joke at this point) .

  24. Sign QUARTERBACK Tim Tebow already Rams, Jaguars or Browns all could use a winner like him on their roster! Let him develop over time and the story will die down… No One will work harder than Tim Tebow on the roster, he’s a born leader. Tim Tebow’s last 2 drives for the Patriots were touchdown passes that won the game! Winner! His very last pass for the Patriots was a touchdown pass! Go Go Tebow! =P

  25. @2jivecrew,
He has a limited number of starts. You are correct that he has not looked good but you discount the main thing he does well–win games. If you look at the stats from Tebow and John Elway in their first 14 starts (Tebow’s total #) Tebow has a better completion percentage than the HoFer. Tebow never lined up under the guard either. 😉

I am not saying Tebow is better than Elway. Just that most of the people bashing Tebow use his completion percentage stats. An ugly win is better than a greatly played loss–every time. Personally, I think Tebow would be a heck of a fullback but as a starting QB he has won more than he’s lost. He sucks in practice and for much of the game but he is as clutch in crunch-time as many of the great QBs of today.

  26. What was the point of this article? I’m sure the Rams threw out the 5-10 names of QBs currently unemployed that might be viable options moving forward. I don’t see articles about “Rams discuss signing Vince Young….but probably won’t”

Reasons like this are why his fans demand he is getting hosed and fly airplanes overhead begging for him to be signed. Reasons like this are also why his detractors loathe him so much dump all over him

  27. Sam Bradford could throw. But can’t win a pickup ping pong game. Blaine Gabbert can throw but can’t win. Ditto for Carson Palmer. Ditto for Mike Glennon. And ditto for Matt Shaub for some strange reason now. Tebow wins but can’t throw a lick. Awful to dreadful passing stats! Go figure. Give him a shot Fisher. He may save your job just like he did with John Fox.

    —————————

Tebow didn’t win those games, his defense did. Without the defense keeping it close the Broncos would never have been in a position to win any of those games at the end. Ryan Leaf had better game film than Tebow does. I don’t recall anybody ever clamoring for him to come back to a team down on their luck at QB.

And Elway never looked anywhere near as bad as a pass thrower as Tebow has, even on his darkest day in the beginning. Tebow has never been a good passer, even in college. Tebow’s game will not cut it in the NFL. It’s been proven repeatedly. Great kid, great attitude. But just not an NFL caliber QB. There’s no shame in that. He’s a great human being and he’ll be just fine outside of football.

  29. “But hey, go ahead and sign him if you’re wanting to tank for that early draft pick. Because the Rams would be guaranteed to lose every remaining game on the schedule by signing him.”

True. Signing Tebow and putting him on the bench behind your starter is sure to lose you 9 games. Easy.

  30. Pick up Tebow, a proven winner or go with Clemens a proven loser! The 2011 Broncos were a losing team with Orton at the helm until Tebow came in and took that team to the playoffs. Rams need to sign Tebow and start winning.

  31. Who rushed for more yards in their first 175 attempts? Tim Tebow or Reggie Bush?

    Answer below.

Due to the fact that Tebow was so exceptional in college, everyone expects him to walk into the NFL and immediately continue the success he had.

It takes time. You know anyone that can walk on and immediately take over? Can you memorize 250+ plays and a whole lot more?

Here is a list of first year QBs and their stats.
These guys are all pretty good now, but here is where they were in the first years:

    Matthew Stafford – First 13 games – 21 INT
    Jay Cutler – First 21 games – 19 INT
    Cam Newton – First 16 games – 17 INT
    Sam Bradford – First 16 games – 15 INT
Ben Roethlisberger first 14 games 11 INT
    Tim Tebow – First 23 games – 9 INT

    Answer to above:
Check out Tebow’s stats against a top running back, yes running back.

    Reggie Bush – 1st 155 att 565 Rush Yds 6 rush TDs
    Tm Tebow – 1st 177 att 887 Rush Yds 12 rush TDs

Anyone want to talk about wins in their first year?

Stop listening to people and start looking at the numbers. We need someone big enough to bring him in, control the media and win games. But the team has to win. Can the team win? Can they take the pressure? If the NFL can do that, and Tim Tebow can only talk with his numbers and not his mouth, the NFL will accept him, but only Jeff Fisher can help.

    Think about it.

    Joe Pendleton.

  32. Tim Tebow could be a good NFL quarterback if he were allowed to play in the same type of spread offense read option offenses that the likes of Cam Newton, Robert Griffin, and Terrelle Pryor are allowed to play in. Are you really telling me that someone like Terrelle Pyror, WHO COULDN’T EVEN PLAY QUARTERBACK IN THE BIG 10, could be an NFL quarterback and Tim Tebow can’t ?

The only reason Tebow played poorly is because of the horrible play calling of John Fox. Like clockwork the Broncos would run the ball on every 1st and 2nd down and then force Tebow to throw on 3rd and long. There isn’t a quarterback in the league who could succeed doing that. Tim Tebow is a RUNNING QUARTERBACK, let him play like one .

  33. Jacksonville doesn’t need another guy who can’t play, so any dumb notion of ‘Tebow coming to the Jags’ will fall on deaf ears. Especially when there are good QB’s in the draft next year like Marcus Mariota.

  34. heavencantwait15, clearly you are smitten with TTebow and for all intent and purposes can’t see the forest for the trees in your evaluation process of him………..

I admire you research and diligence in trying to make TTebow relevant and somewhat attraction to an NFL team in light of all the injuries to the QB’s lately, but bottom line, this guy can not play QB at this level….Surely you can see that….

Oh yeah, Tebow will provide some ESPN highlights for you but that’s about it……Now, in all fairness, I was hopeful that Tebow would stick with the Patriots because I thought if anyone could get the best from him Belichick would.

After he was released by the Patriots, I knew his days were over and no GM would waist their time adding him to another roster….

Did you see any of his games with the Patriots?…Awful, just Awful I tell you…..

There is no conspiracy against this young man. He simply is just not good enough on this level…….

You must keep the BEST 53….And I love Jesus too……

  35. I can see the Vikes shopping either Cassel or Ponder if Freeman looks good tonight.
I still think they like Ponder and would dump Cassel for a draft pick or two.

  36. What happens when you run the football? The clock keeps ticking.

All everyone talks about is that the completion percentage is 45% with Tebow. Who cares. He runs the ball, and when you add those rush yards next to the loss in pass yards that other QBs might have, you also burn up the clock. That equals a better defense.

But I love the Tampa Bay Bucs, o-7 now with Glennon. “No we will not pursue Tim Tebow.”

Sam Bradford was soooo amazing. The franchise is lost without him. huh?

They pursued Brett Favre, but not after Calling Pat Haden and Vince Ferragamo.

List of amazing QBs all better than Tim Tebow

    Blaine Gabbart, incredible.
    Kellen Clemens, awesome.
    Terrelle Pryor, fabulous.
    Josh Freeman, wow.
    Brandond Weedon, amazing.
    Brady Quinn, spectacular.
    Tavaris Jackson, wow.
Dan Orlovsky, okay I admit, he is better.
    Matt Flynn, amazing.
    Matt Schaub, superb.
    Carson Palmer, excellent.
    Matt Barkley, great.
    Nick Foles, tremendous.
    Case Keenum, wow.
    Carson Palmer, playoffs.

  37. The team that signs TIM TEBOW will never EVER regret it. The Rams need Tim, Tim needs them…what the F are they even waiting for. Sign Tebow and watch the magic of a born WINNER take hold. At least give him a look…C’Mon Rams…If you can handle the Michael Sam circus, Tebow will be a piece of cake — not to mention the fact that the RAMS games TV ratings will be through the roof. Go Tebow!
