The Redskins drafted tight end Jordan Reed in April with an eye on making him the replacement for Fred Davis in their offense.

Davis is set to become a free agent after the season, but Washington isn’t waiting until then to put their plan into motion. Davis is inactive for Sunday’s game against the Bears to continue a trend that’s seen Reed ascend the depth chart at tight end.

Davis was listed on the injury report with an ankle injury, although he was listed as probable and was expected to be in the lineup after playing with the injury in the last two games. His playing time has dropped steadily since he started the opening game of the season and both Reed and Logan Paulsen are playing ahead of him now. He has three catches for 25 yards through the first five games, but all of the catches came in the first two weeks.

Reed, meanwhile, is tied for second on the team with 17 catches and his opportunities should only go up in the weeks to come.
