Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne is set for an MRI of his right knee on Monday and the team’s doctors are reportedly hoping that their initial diagnosis of the injury is incorrect.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that doctors initially diagnosed a torn ACL for Wayne on Sunday night. Per Mortensen, the team is “hoping for a miracle” when they get the results of the MRI.

If it is a torn ACL, Wayne’s season would come to an end. That would mean his consecutive games played streak ends at 189 and it would mean that the Colts would have to move forward without their top wide receiver. Darrius Heyward-Bey had a good night against the Broncos and T.Y. Hilton has had some big games, but neither one has the same package of skills that Wayne brings to the offense.

The loss of such a durable and consistent player would obviously be a major obstacle for the Colts offense to overcome, to say nothing of the difficult job of informing cornerback Vontae Davis that he won’t be going up against Marvin Harrison in practice again this year.
