The Texans have lost five straight, and saw a quarterback hurt before they had to bench him.
So obviously, it’s scapegoat time.
According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans have released defensive end Sam Montgomery, outside linebacker Willie Jefferson and running back Cierre Wood for violating team rules at their Kansas City hotel. According to the report, all three were sent home Sunday morning, and were among the players the Texans made inactive for yesterday’s loss to the Chiefs.
Montgomery was a third-round pick this year, but had disappointed with a chance to win substantial playing time. Coach Gary Kubiak’s frustration with Montgomery goes back months, to when he reported to training camp out of shape.
Wood and Jefferson were first-year players, and Jefferson had reportedly been kicked out of Baylor for failing multiple drug tests.
It’s a bold statement, but when you’re 2-5 and nothing else is working, it’s time for bold.
