The Cowboys have added rookie safety Jakar Hamilton from their practice squad, the team said Saturday.

The move bolsters the Cowboys’ safety depth. Starting strong safety J.J. Wilcox (knee) will miss Sunday’s game at Detroit.

Hamilton, 24, played at South Carolina State. The Cowboys waived him on August 31, then re-signed him the practice squad the next day.

In a corresponding roster move, the Cowboys waived third-year guard David Arkin, whom they selected in the fourth round of the 2011 draft. Arkin had been a reserve in his three seasons with Dallas, never appearing a regular-season game.
